Google's First Foldable unveiled: Google Pixel Fold.
Last Year in December 2022 John Prosser from Front Page Tech leaked everything about the design of Google’s first Foldable, sharing everything from the design language to the internal naming of the device (PASSPORT). He also told us about the different colours this device will come in while mentioning everything about the build of the device including the placement of the internal camera speakers and so much more.
This year on April 22nd, 2023 he leaked everything else that we need to know about this device including the price and every single spec. In addition to his Youtube video, yesterday Google themselves gave us the first official teaser of the Pixel Fold via a tweet from Google’s official Twitter Handle. And looking at the device from Google’s teaser I think it is safe to assume that all the information from John’s video about The Pixel Fold could be true. So here it is, everything we know about the Pixel Fold so far.
Google Pixel Fold: Release Date
According to John’s video, The Pixel Fold will be released on May 10th. It will be announced during Google I/O and will instantly be available for pre-order exclusively on Google Store. And Google themselves confirmed half of it, by mentioning the date May 10th on the teaser video. Prosser also mentioned that Google will be giving a Pixel Watch for free with every Pre-order. There is no mention of which countries the Pixel Fold will officially be available in, so no mention of it coming to India as well. We will have to wait till May 10th to know more about it.
Google Pixel Fold: Design
Speaking of the things we know of is Pixel Fold’s design. According to Prosser, the Pixel Fold will be available in 2 new colours White (Chalk) and Black (Obsidian) and being a Flagship it will be made up of premium materials like metal and glass reminiscent of the Pro phones and it is highly polished. The phone will also be very hefty as it weighs around 280 grams and when folded it will be 5.5" in height x 3.1" in width x 0.5" in depth (Exact dimensions from John’s Video). The Phone will also come with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
Google Pixel Fold: Specifications
Starting off with the display on the front will be a 5.8" Full HD+ OLED panel with an aspect ratio of 17.4:9 with a 120hz refresh rate. The internal display will be a 7.6" 120hz OLED display with a resolution of 2208x1840 and an aspect ratio of 6:5. This panel will be protected by an ultra-thin glass layer with protective plastic on top. There is mention of either display being a variable refresh rate panel or LTPO.
When it comes to battery life we don’t know the exact battery capacity but we do know that Google is calling it a “Beyond 24-hour battery life” and up to 72-hour battery life on an extreme battery saver mode.
The phone will also come with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM as standard on all the variants and it will come with the same chipset as Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, The Google Tensor G2 with the Titan M2 security chip.
The Main camera is a 48MP sensor with OIS and f/1.7 aperture with an 82-degree field of view. Then we have a 10.8 MP Ultrawide camera with an F/2.2 aperture and 121.1-degree field of view. The Telephoto camera also has a 10.8MP sensor with an aperture of f/3.05 and comes with 5x Optical zoom and 20x Super Res Zoom. The Rear camera system will also be equipped with a Laser Auto Focus Sensor and OIS + EIS on the Main sensor.
The Front Camera on the outer display will come with a 9.5MP sensor with an aperture of f/2.2 and an 84-degree field of view, but it only has a fixed focus. While the camera on the inner display is 8MP and it comes with an aperture of f/2.0 and an 84-degree field of view, it also has a fixed focus. It will support all the camera features like Magic Eraser and Photo Unblur just like his normal siblings the Pixel 7 and the 7 Pro. You can also record 4k videos at 30fps on the main sensor no mention of the video recording capabilities of the front camera and inner display camera.
Google Pixel Fold: Pricing
The Pixel fold is speculated to come in 2 different variants a 256GB (Base Model) and a 512 GB variant. The base model is rumoured to start at USD 1799 (1,46,163 INR) and the higher variant will start at USD 1919 (1,58,979 INR). Both devices will be available to pre-order from the Google Store on May 10th.
